With winter becoming colder and colder, you want to pay attention to any stone chips you may have not repaired. I get a lot of calls in the winter of people telling me their windshield just cracked out.

Here are 4 Tips To Help Prevent A Windshield Crack Out In Cold Conditions:

Never turn the defrost on your windshield when the windshield is very cold. Warm the body of the car in advance first. This way the windshield will warm up slowly.
Park your vehicle under some kind of shade. This will keep the sun from heating the windshield to fast.
Avoid driving on bumpy roads. Gravel roads, uneven roads will more likely jar your vehicle and cause the windshield to flex in ways that may cause a crack out.
If you have to park your vehicle outside and you know snow or freezing rain is coming. Keep a small tarp or peace of plastic with a few magnets to place over your windshield. This will keep the windshield from freezing and is much easier to warm up.

What should a windshield repair chip look like after it has been fix correctly? I find it very important to address this question for those involved with the Windshield Repair Industry. A windshield repair chip should disappear 80-95% from its original damaged appearance. If your stone chip repair does not disappear most of the way, your stone chip repair was not fixed correctly. You should never see air bubbles in a finished windshield repair! You should be able to look 360 degrees around a starburst chip and see each leg disappear one by one as you look through the legs. These problems happen when there is a lack of time spent on vacuuming all the air out of the break.
