I get a lot of calls in the winter of people telling me their windshield just cracked out.

If you are waiting on a rainy day to get your windshield repaired. Your waiting on a $300+ ticking time bomb. Instead of spending 50-60 bucks and keeping your manufactures original windshield. People wake up one morning. Get in there car. Turn on the defrost, and watch as an amazing POPPING sound acurres. As soon as the frost clears. There is a 3 foot long crack from one side of the windshield to the other...

Here are 4 Tips To Help Prevent A Windshield Crack Out In Cold Conditions:

Never turn the defrost on your windshield when the windshield is very cold. Warm the body of the car in advance first. This way the windshield will warm up slowly.

Park your vehicle under some kind of shade. This will keep the sun from heating the windshield to fast.

Avoid driving on bumpy roads. Gravel roads, uneven roads will more likely jar your vehicle and cause the windshield to flex in ways that may cause a crack out.

If you have to park your vehicle outside and you know snow or freezing rain is coming. Keep a small tarp or peace of plastic with a few magnets to place over your windshield. This will keep the windshield from freezing and is much easier to warm up.

Subscribe in a reader

Pictures Of The Windshield Repair Process

I thought I would post these pictures for those who need a visual aid. I find it very important to address this question for those involved with the Windshield Repair Industry. A windshield repair chip should disappear 80-95% from its original damaged appearance. If your stone chip repair does not disappear most of the way, your stone chip repair was not fixed correctly. You should never see air bubbles in a finished windshield repair! You should be able to look 360 degrees around a starburst chip and see each leg disappear one by one as you look through the legs. These problems happen when there is a lack of time spent on vacuuming all the air out of the break.
Subscribe in a reader

Windshield Repair Forum

Hey everyone, There is a great forum going for all of you in the windshield repair Business. Done properly, the damaged area's structural integrity is restored, as is most of the clarity.

Why repair my windshield? Here are several reasons why one would consider a repair. The most common damage to a windshield is called a Stone Chip. A stone chip can range from the size of a pea to the size of a half dollar. If left alone, this damage would eventually crack out into the entire windshield. At that point, the only alternative would be to replace the entire windshield. The average cost of replacing a windshield is approximately $350.00 . Today the average cost of a windshield chip repair is around $50.00. It makes financial sense.

Safety is another reason to consider windshield repair. When doing windshield repairs, the windshield is never removed and the original factory seal is maintained. Due to the rising price of modern automotive glass and the high rate of faulty installations, windshield repair is a very economical, convenient and safe alternative.

What type of Damage can be repaired? Stone Chips are most common. They may range from the size of a pea to the size of a half dollar. Single long cracks up to 24 inches can also typically be repaired.
